USB 3.0 has a backward compatibility standard, compatible with USB1.1 and USB2.0 standard, with the traditional USB technology ease of use and plug and play function. USB3.0 technology goal is to launch more than 10 times faster than USB2.0 products, using the same architecture with the wired USB. In addition to optimizing the USB 3.0 specification for lower power consumption and higher protocol efficiency, USB 3.0 ports and cables are backward compatible and support future fiber transport.
USB 3.0 will use a new physical layer in which the transmission and acknowledgment processes are separated by two channels, thus achieving a higher speed. In order to replace the current polling and broadcast mechanisms used in the current USB, the new specification will use packet-routing technology and only allow the terminal device to transmit when data is to be transmitted. The new link standard will also allow each component to support multiple data streams, and each data stream can maintain a separate priority levels, which can be used during the video transmission to terminate jitter. The transport mechanism of the data stream also makes it possible to make native command queuing, which can optimize the data transfer of the hard disk.
In order to backward compatible with the 2.0 version, USB 3.0 uses a 9-pin design, four of which pin and USB 2.0 shape, the definition is exactly the same, while the other five are specifically prepared for the USB 3.0.
